Welcome to the Young People's Group

You are here: ADHD Foundation - Children & Young People - Young People's Group

Your parent or carer will probably have been in touch with us to learn how to understand and manage ADHD. The next step is for you to be involved.

What are the Young People's Groups?

  • The Young People's Groups are for 13 to 19 year olds.
  • The groups are run by people who understand ADHD.
  • The sessions run for 1½ hours for six weeks during term-time.
  • You will learn how to cope with your ADHD, and what it means to have it.
  • You can choose to have additional support during the week.
The group covers:
  • What ADHD is all about
  • What goes on in the brain
  • Medication
  • The Stop, Think and Do approach
  • Keeping safe
  • Tips for managing and organising at home and school/college
  • Feelings and understanding yourself
  • Identifying what you're good at.

The groups aren’t very big - usually no more than 6 - but you have lots of fun learning.

It makes a big difference when you know about yourself and others around you. Take a look at Alfie's Letter.

How do I get into a group?

To get on one of the groups, you must be referred to ADHD Foundation by your GP, Community Paediatrician, parent, school or agency (e.g. Connexions).

First your parents or carers attend their group so they can learn to understand and manage ADHD too, and then you will be invited to your own Young People's Group.

What we think about the groups?

  • 'For the first time in my life, I told someone I have ADHD.'
  • 'I feel like I belong here.'

Where are the groups run?

In the ADHD Foundation's friendly learning room at our Liverpool office.
